You describe your 'stall test'.
As you do not positively know that your engine is developing full power,
the rev reading of 2,100 is not significant (e.g., slipping clutch and low
power). It is much more important to check the readings in 1st gear, then
in reverse to see if there is any difference in attained revs as each uses
different parts of the gearbox (bands and clutches).
The stall test mainly checks that the torque convertor is working, and only
gives some indication of other faults, depending on which gear is engaged.
The procedure described is only part of the story, preparation of the car
and test timing are both crucial but not so much as how the car is
prevented from moving in ot the nearest tree or pedestrians.
To all digest readers, I cannot emphasise too much that the 'stall test' is
a dangerous procedure which has not been fully described. It should only
be carried out by technicians who are fully experienced in automatic
gearboxes and in undertaking this procedure in particular.
