Dash pad.

My next job is to repair the top of the dash pad where it is cracked and
chipped from the sun. I have read on one of the Triumph sites about
recovering it with black vinyl and using epoxy glue to hold the material in
the low spots to prevent them lifting. Has anyone attempted this? The cost
of having the dash vacuum moulded is a little too pricey for me at the
moment and if I can do this myself it will cost me almost nothing so I am
willing to try and I guess if it doesn't work I can always get it
professionally done later.
Also are there any tips on getting the dash out?
