Hi Alan

There are many places oil can leak from the 'back of the engine' on the
Stag including cylinder heads, transfer housings, oil pump area, torque
converter etc., and it is a case of elimination.

Auto boxes unfortunately tend to leak at the best of times, but attention
to external leaks can help. However, do pay adequate attention to whether
the box shifts properly up and down without excessive jerks, and that the
torque converter is working.

If you would like a detailed 22-page (A4) guide to buying a Stag including
specifications, check-sheets etc, this is available free to Triumph Stag
Register members. Please note that the market is VERY depresssed at the
moment and consequently there are a lot of 'sellers' and very few 'buyers'
indeed. Many 'sellers' have not adjusted their prices down to suit the
condition of the market and it is therefore impossible to attempt to figure
out what a 'good' price is - there is certainly no magic formula.

Like a house, the car has to feel 'right' and the seller amenable to the
price you are prepared to pay. It is a buyers market.
