Re: Silicone Brake Fluid

Hello All,
Well, well, what a timely posting debate on brake fluids! #75
October-November 1998 edition of British Car has a great 4 page
article " Vital Fluids III: Brakes and Clutch", by Paul Kile.

Good read, good information. An important note is that changing
fluids to DOT 5 is more than just draining anf filling, as the rubber
components frequently overlooked, i.e. flexible hoses and brake switch,
and the author recommends changing the metal lines too as they tend to
hold corrosion which in turn holds the DOT 3 or 4 fluid that is
incompatable with DOT 5, along with the complete system rebuild. So, if
you have rebuild all your cylinders and replaced the flexible hoses too,
it is only a marginal cost increase to complete the job with new metal
lines and use DOT5.
