As you've read in responses to your post, the windshield can be a real =
ordeal. BTW, I omitted the little brackets at the bottom as, even after =
slitting my new seal, I couldn't get the windshield to sit low enough in =
the opening to fit properly. And of course, the presence of those =
brackets made use of the strings quite difficult. I also used two strings =
and a friend's fanny (had her sit lightly against the glass while I cussed =
the whole thing). =
I tried prefitting the trim, but it continuously popped off during refit. =
I tried various tools of my own manufacture, and eventually ended up being =
successful using the ROM's tool illustration. I modified a cheap latch-=
hook rug tool purchased from a crafts shop and it worked great. For =
sealing purposes, I used a traditional petroleum-based sealant rather than =
newer silicon substances as I could use a petro-based solvent to dress the =
liquid seal and keep my paint pretty. As I recall I spent far more time =
making the sealant look right and cleaning my surrounding body panels than =
I did installing the glass itself. The procedure requires the patience of =
a saint.

Hey Gang,
Well, I got the windshield in. One developement over the repair
manual's method: Instead of one string, I used two, ending at the top
and bottom center. Thus the windshield is trapped first at both the top
and bottom in its center, and the cords are gradually withdrawn to
continue the installation. Much beating on the screen with a fist.
Now if anyone knows a trick that works to install the trim, let me know!
