86 735i trans question

Hello Everyone,
I had to pull out the radiator on the above car (bad motor mounts cause fan 
to grenade and take out radiator.)  
What is the recommended process for putting auto tranny fluid back in the 
system now that I've had the radiator repaired?  Sorry I don't have a 
bentley, this is someone else's car who refuses to spend a nickel on it (not 
a happy BMW by any means).
Also, aside from the motor mounts which are saturated with oil, how important 
is that little shock absorber on the side of the motor?  I wasn't going to 
even pay any attention to it, but that being bad wouldn't be enough to let 
the fan hit the shroud would it?  I've never paid any attention to it on any 
other Bimmer of that era, but just thought I'd make sure,
