I've heard quite a bit about modifying the eta engines or other M20 engines,
except the 524 td engine.
I was just reading some info on the M20 engines. I know that the eta is an M20
engine and the same applies for the turbo diesel.
I also noticed that the stroke/bore of the eta is 81/84mm and the td is 81/80
mm. What I am wondering, is it possible to swap thos blocks for the benefit of
the TD? I mean increasing the bore by 4 mm is a pretty big jump.
Is it possible?
Has any one done it before?
What would result for the td? more compression? better fuel economy? more
power?
What else have people done to the td engine to get more power or economy.
I'm not looking for power & economy at the same time.
Any suggestions? I'm not an engine type person, I know electronics & HVAC
stuff and a little about the ignition systems & intake.
I have a neighbor with an 85 524td that has about 280K on the clock and is
thinking about some modifications to the engine. My neighbor also uses
biodiesel in his car, not on a large scale he just made up a few gallons and
says it works great and its cheaper than 1.99$ / gallon of diesel right now at
some places in VT.
