1) Join the yahoo group at www.318ti.net
2) Profile gasket problems predate the US 318ti's. By 1995, BMW had
solved the problem.
3) No unusual mechanical problems for the 318ti, just the typical E36
items. Well, the gas-strut hatch supports are weak in cold weather.
4) M42 OBD-I engine in 1995, M44 OBD-II engine 1996+. Various other
6-cylinder transplants. Many 4-cylinders with Downing-Atlanta
superchargers.
5) 318ti's came in Base, Active, Sport, and Club Sport ('95 only). If
no major upgrades are planned, then the 96+ Sport is most desirable
(IMHO). Comes with sport suspension, 16-inch wheels, and sport body
kit.
