I don't know if this will be helpful but the same problem ocurrs on
1980's to 1990's Porsche 928s if you reset the odometer while the car is
in motion. There is a replacement gear available for Porsches from
http://members.rennlist.com/slevy6/gear.htm, however I don't know if
it's the same part used on E-30s. Failing that a good speedometer
repair shop should be able to help you, try
