Do I need a bra?

Hi,
     This "new to me" '95 325i I bought has quite a few stone chips on
the original hood and original paint.  The metal seems to be galvanized
or something that won't rust, but it still makes the car look older.
Even going over them with touch-up is not going to really help much.
     Rather than getting the whole hood repainted, I am considering a
nice bra for the front.  Since I've never owned one, I'm concerned about
water getting trapped in there and causing rust, and also the paint
fading less and differently underneath.
     Are either of these legitimate worries?  Or should I just go ahead
and get one?
