BMW Synthetic Oil

I just changed the oil in both of our 7s.  Due to the good deal that I
received on 5W-30 BMW Long Life Synthetic Oil, I used it in my E38 and I
used Mobil 1 5W-30 in my wife's E32.

I found it interesting how much darker the BMW Synthetic Oil was out of the
bottle when compared to the Mobil 1.  If my memory serves me correctly, the
5W-30 BMW Synthetic Oil that I used today was much darker than the 5W-40 BMW
Synthetic that BMW used to recommend for the 1999 7.  I believe that BMW
switched to Castrol as their oil supplier in late 1999.

Does anyone know off hand which Castrol Oil is used for the current BMW
5W-30 Synthetic.  I know that Castrol makes a Syntec Blend (part Synthetic
and part Dino Juice) as well as Castrol Syntec.  Is it possible that BMW is
using the Syntec Blend for its oil?
