Chris,
The turn signal stalk pops a pin inside the steering wheel assembly when
the signal is engaged. Turning the wheel left or right pushes down on that
pin and turns the blinkers off. It was my believe that there was only one
pin for both left and right hand blinker engagements, but I could have been
mistaken. If there are two and one of them has broken off on your car, that
would certainly explain the condition your are describing. The other
possibility is that there is only one "turn signal reset" pin, but it has
gotten a bit loose and is been engaged only when the wheel turns left and
not when it turns right.
Take the wheel off (remove the lock nut behind the plastic roundel) and
observe the mechanism in motion. Perhaps something is just loose and you
will be able to fix things by tighteing them up.

Hi all,

The turn signal in my 89 325i is acting up.  When turning right, the
directional does not click off automatically when bringing the wheel back
to center.

Any idea what I have to repair / replace?  I'd like to know what I am up
against before I go opening things up.
