I am a long time BMWCCA member and driven mostly M Cars. �I have religiously
changed drivetrain fluids and used Redline products. �
Now I have added a 1998 528iA with approx. 41000 miles on the odometer to the
family. �There is no requirement to change the drivetrain fluids per the
service manual. �I have read in a recent Roundel that although it is always
recommended to change fluids regularly, there have been adverse impacts to
the BMW transmissions when the fluids have been changed. �Advice...if it
ain't broke, don't fix it.
Asked my local dealer and they say I will need to take it to a transmission
shop with special equipment so they can suck all the transmission fluid out
of the transfer case. �A regular draining won't get all the old fluid out.
�Not really thrilled with taking the car to AAMCO to have this done.
What do you recommend? �The car has the extended warranty but I am hesitant
to do anything here with the negative stories floating around on what could
happen after the fluid is changed. �Will the fluid change give me any
longevity?
