1997 528i: clock functions

Gary writes:

"Is there anyone out there who can tell me about the clock functions that
are supposed to be available in the 1997 528i? Shortly after taking
ownership of a new 528i, I became aware that setting the time was the only
available clock function in this particular car. The owner's manual and
the informational audio tape about the 528i suggest that other functions
should be available including date, 12/24 hr, stop watch, timer and vent
functions, none of which come up when I activate the clock mode button. I
would like to find out from other owners what clock functions are available
on their 1997 528s... ...I would greatly appreciate any clues that anyone
out there
can give me."

I own an E39 528i and don't think these functions are available. As far as
I remember, only time and date functions (now I have a doubt about the
date...) are offered. I don't recall the tape stating that anything else
is available on the 528i. I always thought that these features were only
available on the 540i with the extended feature OBC. Let me know if I'm
wrong.

On a different note, I mistakenly posted several months ago that I had
spotted my first E39 540i 6 speed (indeed, the car only arrived in the U.S.
this month). Well, this time, I saw a real one: Montreal Blue, 6 speed,
with the stock bolted 2-piece, 7 spoke wheels and tires. I saw it parked
on a Home Depot parking lot. I became very envious, but then reminded
myself that the owner was probably over 10 grand out more than I was...
Anyway, it is gorgeous (I imagined it in Oxford green/sand beige...) , and
I can't imagine what it must be like to drive one! If he/she reads the
digest, maybe he/she'll offer to take me for a little test drive?!...ha,
ha.
