I measured this just the other day. The outside diameter is
15 +/- 0.2 inch. Same for an '89 E30 325is (not practical for 2002).

2002: contact ring on column, brush on wheel
320i: contact ring on wheel, brush on column.
You can install the 2002 brush on the 320i wheel (another digester
did this), or you can install a 320i brush on the 2002 column
(I did this). Since I posted a description of this recently, I'll
not take up digest space again; email me for details.
