I know that this topic is elementary to some, but please bear with us.
In selecting the oil for my first change for my 328IC:
As you all remenber the infamous Consumer Reports article which states
that the Starburst Symbol with the "API SH" designation is the only
oil to use. Well, I can't find a 15W-40 oil with it.
Manual says 15W-40. Someone has just asked which brand, and received
the reply that a dealer uses Shell Rolletat. I had looked at this
today and noticed that it is designed for diesels. So I went home and
checked the owners manual and found the Engine Oil Specifications as
"CCMC and/or API ratings" :
"Preferred":
CCMC-GW, CCMC-G5, CCMC-G4/PD2, or CCMC--G5/PD2
"Also Approved":
API SG, API SH, API SG/CD, etc.
I finally purchased Pennzoil 15W-40 which is also stated to be for
diesel and gasoline engines with "API Service CG-4, CF-4, CF-2,
CF/SH".
My Questions:
What is the CCMC specification and is "CCMC-G4" the same as "API
CG-4"?
Is this Pennzoil O.K. to use?
Thank-you
Marc
