FWIW, I've had success removing wax from moderately porous/rough
surface type side moldings with mineral spirits (paint thinner). If
the spot is really bad, mix a little dry lacquer thinner in with the
mineral spirits. Try not to use a sponge to rub at it with, since the
sponge tends to deteriorate and leave residue. Use a terry cloth towel
instead.
You need to be careful with the lacquer thinner on smooth/shiny type
side moldings, (esp. like the kind that are used adjacent to door
window glass to keep water from running down into the door). The
lacquer thinner will make greasy black streaks when you wipe it from
the molding onto the paint.
Hope this is of some help.
