E36 ABS

Re:- E36 ABS

I had E34 M50 525i which had a couple of ABS incidents. When the engine is
first started and the car starts moving, it checks that all the wheel sensors
are working before it activates the ABS and turns off the ABS warning light.
The ABS is only operative above about 8 km/h. If any one of the sensors fails
to return a signal, the ABS is inoperative. The commonest reason for this is a
bad or dirty connection to a wheel sensor, the next is a failed sensor. These
are located in the hubs of all 4 wheels and the connectors can be fairly easily
located if the car is jacked and the wheels removed. It is not TOO difficult
to check these and shouldn't be very expensive to replace if necessary.
Good luck DaveE.
