[alfa] club dynamics
Monty's post reminded me of recent discussions relating to another
(non alfa) car club of which i am a member.
one of the biggest mistakes a club can make is not paying enough
attention to its enthusiastic young members. clubs get old and
ossified, they become set in their ways, and often fail to properly
engage their young and enthusiastic members.
the club i'm talking about has a group of people who have
been running it for 20 years or so, they're very experienced
and individually are mostly reasonable. but because of their
experience, they often blow off the advice, comments, and
suggestions of the younger members.
this is an incredibly bad thing to do. the members who are
treated this way all too often do go find something else to do.
so this message is really for the old hands running Alfa club
chapters all over the world -- take care of your younger
members, and value their enthusiasm. you do want the club
to go on after you're gone, right?
