[alfa] Re: Trip to Milan - Drive a new Alfa?
You SHOULD be able to rent a 156 from either Hertz or Avis at Malpensa,
as they certainly do have them (147s as well). Unfortunately, these
rental agencies deal with "classes" of cars (sub-compact, compact,
medium sized, etc.) not specific brands or models, so it's difficult to
get a specific car reserved. OTOH, if you do manage to get an Alfa 156,
it will most assuredly be a Diesel. I have rented both a 2.4 Diesel 156
from Avis and a 2.5 liter V6 156 on two different occasions, but I must
tell you, that getting the gasoline engined car took almost an act of
congress, and I think I only got it because someone Statesside had
promised it to me (my voucher actually called the car out by brand,
model, and engine). I also told them that I was an "auto journalist",
and they finally had the gasoline car ferried to MXP from Torino. My
main advice is to book the car from the web BEFORE you leave. Let them
know the dates and negotiate the price FIRST. Also, insist on a 156 (if
that's what you want) and make sure the voucher you get from the
web-based travel service SAYS "Alfa Romeo 156" on it and stick to your
guns when you get off the plane.
Anyway, I've never been in Italy in the Winter, but I do know that it
does snow there, especially in the north and it can get quite cold. But
don't miss the Alfa Museum at Arese and be sure to let us all know if
they've moved ahead with tearing down the old factory, etc. Enjoy
yourself. Italy is one the world's GREAT places!

Subject: [alfa] Trip to Milan - Drive a new Alfa?
Good evening all,
I've nearly finalized my plans for a trip to Milan in late Feb. and
have
been looking at the possibilities of renting an Alfa during my stay.
I'll
be flying into MXP, but have been able to find very little information
concerning rentals on the web. For those of you who have been there,
any
suggestions? I would appreciate any and all - I've been having
visions of
156s all day...
TIA,
Ryan
