I'm actually going to wire the airbox to the ignition so that if I pull
it off the car won't start ;) Safeway parking lots will be avoided. 
 
I'll be packing my tools, extra alt/fan belt, etc...your basic road kit.
I've broken down on 520 heading to the 520 bridge during rush
hour...after that...nothing ruffles my feathers. 
 
Thanks for all the tips, including you Richard (haw haw). The plan is to
take Hwy 1 as far up as possible then hit 101 until Astoria  OR, where I
will cross to the WA side and head to Longview then up to Oly and
Seattle. I'm cutting out the WA coast because I have family in both
Longview and Oly (grew up in both towns) and because I have the feeling
I'll be a bit burned out by that time. But the road to Longview from
Astoria is very very nice and curvy and is a nice way to "end" the trip.

 
I plan to fully document and post the trip/insanity so you all can
experience the Great Berlina Roadtrip of 2003.
