Re: Sport springs question
Folks,
after a long delay, here is the result of my investigation into IAP spring
length.
As a reminder, back in August someone had asked a question about the IAP
springs,
and since I was about to replace the springs on my 87 Spider Quad with IAP
springs
(due to the right rear spring being broken), I said I'd investigate and
report.
This car had 102,000 miles on the original springs.
For front spring length:
my service manual (the IAP $60 Factory Service Manual)
sez free length of stock springs is 12.52 inch.
I measured the old front spring as 12 3/4 inch,
and the IAP front spring as 9 1/4 inch.
For rear spring length:
Workshop manual sez free length of stock springs is 18 inch.
The old rear spring was 19 inch,
and the IAP rear spring is 13 11/16 inch,
Regarding car height:
I measured the height at the axles from ground to bottom of wheel well.
With the old springs the height was
left front 25 1/8 inch, right front 24 9/16 inch,
left rear 24 inch, right rear 23 1/16 inch.
(Yeah, it was lop-sided - remember that the right rear spring was broken.)
With new IAP Sport springs:
left front 24 1/4 inch, right front 24 inch,
left rear 23 3/8 inch, right rear 23 1/8 inch.
So it is about a half inch lower with new springs, and the left side is
higher than the right by 1/4 inch.
