Stuffing a V8 into a Spider?

I have a friend who just purchased a 1985 Spider, and he's looking to stuff a
V8 into it.  Has anyone seen such a monster conversion, know of any websites
that may have any info, or can help point him in the proper direction?  I've
already tried to convince him of the merits of the gtv v6/maserati biturbo
tranny conversion, but he wants American muscle under (and likely protruding
through) the hood.  Any help would be most appreciated, feel free to email me
directly with the info.  Soon, he will have many parts from this car up for
sale if you know anyone interested.  The car is located in Central Alabama,
engine runs fine, tranny has trouble staying in reverse.
