My 1976 Spider (Nov '75) has been in my family since 1978. It was
passed on to me in '97 after a thorough engine and Spica overhaul. My
dad had the cam timing adjusted. My guess is he had them done like Pat
Braden and others suggest. My point is this: Since the overhaul, this
car WILLINGLY revs to 8,000 rpm. In fact it caught me off-guard upon
discovery. It happened so quick I was worried I had damaged something.
Since, I only rev this high when we go for an Italian tune-up. Who
knows, my dad may have had something else done but I don't think so.
Admittedly, the '76 does not have the bottom end that my '73 Spider has
but the '73 runs out of power at about 5,000 rpm.
Regards,
Richard
1973 Spider (good body, tired engine)
1976 Spider (rusty body, amazing engine)
