Hmmm...  My 2L revs happily to 7,000 and will run at 5,000 all day long.
Maybe the 2L you drove had Webers...

Seriously,

The 1750 engine always seemed to enjoy revving whereas the 2L seemed
uncomfortable over about 4000 RPM.

For "feel" the 1750 gets my vote.
