Alfetta Brake Problem

Hi all.

I have a '79 Alfetta GT and am experiencing a problem with my brakes.  Just 
a short while ago my brakes started to pulsate when I stepped on the pedal.  
I have to push hard with my foot to get the car to stop, but it definitely 
has no problem stopping.  I have also noticed a very faint, high pitched hum 
when stepping on the brake pedal.  The brake fluid is not low, looks to be 
in good condition (keep in mind that i am new at this) and the pads have 
only about 5000 miles on them.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
