How I took my radio out "neatly" for my 91' 164L was to remove the two
screws behind the center console under the cigarette lighter between the
front seats. Slide the console back. Remove the two screws holding the
driver side trim. Unscrew the grounding screw, unbolt the mounting nut (10mm
I think) slide the radio forward, disconnect both harnesses and the antenna.
To connect another head unit I would recommend removing passenger side trim
as most of the wiring is on the passenger side. As for in dash radio size it
is a 1 1/2 DIN which is standard chrysler/GM size. You should be able to get
the correct mounting face from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Have them look
up in their mounting plate size in their books (yes it is in their even if
they don't think it is) pn at circuit city is something like 99-9001 I will
verify this later. Depending on whether your head unit comes with a cage or
not you may have to cut two spacers to step it down inside (you never see
this) I used wood to furthur dampen rattle. If you want a good 1 1/2 DIN HU
alpine makes the CDA-D857 which I put in a 164 and its sounds great (THD
.008). This is always a good alternative for a factory fit look. Plus its
compatible with Alpine's Cd changer network.
