Chain tensioner story
All this mention about how to properly do the chain tension, and NOT to do it while running reminds me of on of John Hoard's favorite GTA Jr. stories.
So, he and Joe Benson drive all the way to Boston in John's Datsun 2000 to look at the GTA Jr. for sale (Benson told him "you want that car!"). They are looking it over, condition is very nice. Start it, big time rattle coming from the engine. John is worried- that can't be good. Joe replies quietly to John "don't worry about that."
They make a deal, partial trade in on the 2000 (mostly the trade in), based on the bad engine sound.
After all the papers are signed, Joe asks the sales guy if they can spend a few minutes in their garage. They drive it in, and WHILE ITS RUNNING, he loosens the chain, sound goes away, and tightens it back up. The sales guy's jaw hits the ground. They drive off, and John gets something like 280,000 km on the engine before the valve seats are nothing and he swaps in the 1750.
Remember, this is a very rare 1300 TS motor. Parts are far from cheap....
