i yust got a quote of ~$200 from my local fredneck, uh, i mean frederick md midas shop to replace the "i supply it" cat-con on my '88 milano werde.  they've helped me out in the past, w/alfas...  all these shops are usually independently owned, so ymmv depending on where ya go.  i would never use the midas in downtown bethesda, for example...

but, isle prolly end up doing it myself, or letting doug mitchell, proprietor of crown auto, in gaithersburg, md, do it...  yer specialty shop is chargin' a bit too much, imho...  also, may wanna getta quote from the difatta bros, in baltimore...

   Has anyone had any experience with Midas changing catalytic converters    and mufflers (middle and back) for Alfas? I just got an estimate from a
   'speciality' shop for $1229 (parts and labour), with the labour coming    in at about 7.5 hours (assuming no mark-up on the parts; bad    assumption??). Then I called Midas and, with me supplying the parts from    Int'l Auto Parts, the guy estimated about 2.5 - 3 hours labour!

   What's the deal? Is the Alfa exhaust that different that there's going    to be a problem going with a non-specialty place like Midas?
