- Thread-topic: 164 alarm issues
Hey folks, I'm sure this has been covered before, but....
My 164 has been sitting in storage in a friends garage since October.
I've driven it a few times since but there was a 3 month period recently
where I did not start it or charge the battery. A few weekends ago I
went to start it & the battery was dead. A couple hours on the charger
was enough to start it, although the battery was obviously not supplying
the normal amount of power to the starter & the engine spun slower than
normal. I let it idle for a while, then took it out for about a 90min
drive. I parked it w/o putting the battery on the charger & it sat for
3 weeks.
I went to go check on it yesterday & the battery was totally dead this
time. I opened the door & heard the alarm chirp a few times, kind of
sick sounding though. Then it just started this long constant drone
that was incredibly irritating. I disconnected the battery completely,
still heard the alarm going off! I hooked the battery up again, alarm
went off for a bit, then back on. I plugged in the charger & noticed
the front seats raised themselves to the full vertical height & the
motors were trying their hardest to push the seats past their stops. I
also heard some sort relays clicking near the gauges, & other stuff
happening. I disconnected the battery & all the racket stopped. The
alarm is still going off at this point. I start removing the trunk
carpeting on the passenger side & find there is a keyhole for the alarm.
The manual says you need an 'alarm key' to turn off the alarm manually.
Of course I don't have one of these. I remove the plastic cover over
the siren & find a big plug going into it, cool, I can turn this dang
thing off finally. After wrestling with the impossible plug for a few
minutes I finally unplug it. The siren is still sounding!!!!! I figure
it's self powered. I take the siren out & start disassembling it.
There are a couple of battery packs made from coin batteries that are
hard wired to the circuit board & speaker. I cut the two wires to the
speaker. It finally stopped ;-)
So, my question is: What's the next step? Make sure the battery is
topped off with enough distilled water & fully charged & then put the
siren back together? What about all seats & relays wigging out? Are
the alarm keys available anymore? I'm going back up there tonight to
see if I can sort things out. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Zach
