164 hesitates in cornering

After a year of quietly observing digests, my totally-reliable-until-now 164
('89, RHD) has thrown up a puzzle to solve. When hard cornering to the left
the engine loses power, especially under full acceleration. It first began
to do this under very quick cornering (when you most needed the power....),
but is now doing it at more moderate speeds. There is no problem when
cornering to the right. It also may not have the usual power - have thought
that it is a bit slow to rev out, but this may be more anecdotal evidence
that anything else....

Would love some thoughts!
