Spider Auto Transmision Indicator Light

suppose this mystery light is still lingering on a 91? My BW's AUTO spider
has what appears to be a set of translucent indications for the auto tranny
gears but in the dark they are invisible. As we're both used to standard
transmission cars we often don't know what gear we're moving into in the
spider in the dark (e.g., from park to Drive we hope? or reverse, we
trust?) Strikes me an extra ashtray lamp could be useful under there to
light up the indicators. Anyone done anything like this?"
There is a very small light bulb that is attached to the shift lever and
sits under the indicator and illuminates the indicator. Mine looks like it's
wrapped with some kind of black putty to keep it in the holder. You can pull
off the top of the shift lever handle by pushing the button and pulling the
"T" handle straight up, then remove the plate and get at the light and
holder.
