It is wise to always make removal of the battery cable the first step
to any automotive repair. Heck, disconnect the battery when you wash the car
just to be save.
That said, I have welded with MIG and stick on various Alfas and other
cars with electronic injection. On the Alfas I think I have always removed
the battery cable. On occasion I have removed the computers, but that was
more to do with the extent of the repair than as a precaution. I also know I
welded up the trailer hitch on my 94 Ford Motorhome without disconnecting
anything.
I have not had any problems. Guess I should "knock on wood." Is that
slang known down under?
