Re: Alfa engine stands

Hi Ian and Group:

One option you might consider is to purchase two of those Harbor Freight
stands. If you put them face-to-face, with the proper home-welded
adapters, you can fasten one stand to each of the motor mounts on the
block. A brace added to tie the two stand bases to each other makes the
rig extremely sturdy. Instead of rotating the engine around the axis of
the crankshaft, the motor will rotate on the stands end-over-end, allowing
full access to the rear of the block. Might be a little bit of overkill
for the little 4-cylinder, but I used such a rig on a both Jaguar 6- and
12-cylinders, and it
worked great. And, when that V6 in the 164 goes, you'll be set for that
rebuild by just changing adapters and the bottom stand brace.
