Re: Belts or chains (which are you into????)
Hi all,
The issue of belts vs. chains is one of what happens when you neglect your
preventative maintenance. You've got to do a stack of things on a regular
basis - oil/filter changes, valve adjustment, various fluid changes, timing
belt, auxiliary belt changes, tire changes, etc. Most of these things won't
bite you immediately you neglect your car, but the timing belt will. Make no
mistake, with all the other things, you will get bitten - it's just a
question of when.

If they got it right with a better seal design (ala Sperry's version), then
you could stick with the hydraulic tension, which has a much simpler
installation/adjustment procedure (or at least doesn't require the precision
of the mechanical version).
