Re: Spider Motor Mount Replacement

In AD V8 #94, Rob F. asks advice on replacing a LH engine mount for a Spider.

Rob,

In AD V8 #95, Bruce G. gives a good procedure on the left side engine mount
replacement. Let me add just a couple of things though. The bottom nut on the
body side does not have to be completely removed; just loosened a few turns.
The right side mount will out last the left side 10 to 1. This is because the
engine torques clockwise so 90% of the stresses involved are held in check by
the left mount. In other words, the engine torque will want to stretch or pull
apart the left mount while the right mount only sees compression. For this
reason, don't just automatically change the right mount; check the rubber
visually for signs of deterioration. The engine fan hitting the bottom of the
shroud (for mechanical fans only) is a clue that the right mount has sagged
and is NG. Besides, replacing the RH mount is a REAL PITA.
The studs (not bolts) that go into the block are 8 X 1.0 X about 30mm on
the visible threads (I think) and the threads in the block remain a mystery
(to me anyway) since I've never had to change/replace one.
Hope this helps.
