Re: Soft-top frame restoration - what do I keep ?
Paul, Peter,
thanks for you advice, at least I know it's not terminal. I don't know the
extent of the damage to the front rail, as I've only removed the rubber
strip so far. Would I be correct in saying that I need to remove the trim
and the padding from that front rail (indeed, remove everything down to bare
metal) ? Similarly, I assume that everything is removed from the side rails
? How much of this trim, material especially, is no longer available ?
As far as I could tell, it just seemed to be the corner brackets that had
broken, and, where the large pins are in the side rails, perhaps some damage
to the metal of the side rails where the corner brackets bent upwards.
Would it also be correct to suggest that the pins have to come out and, as
my break(s) are in the center of the pin holes, that the remainder of the
corner brackets are rewelded back on. Or, alternatively, should I be
investigating the removal of the corner brackets from the front rail as well
so that they can be repaired and rewelded to the front rail ?
Thanks,
Ross
