Peter,

I don't have an auto so I don't know the exact arrangement but I presume
that like a manual there is a rubber gaiter that goes over the lever and
is held over the hole in the transmission tunnel by a metal ring and 4
self tappers. This also stops a hell of a lot of noise coming through !
