Re: Not Starting Problem
Hi
This is a famous one.
Many people wrote to the Stag owners club with this.
The fuel in the carburettor bowls evapourates or percolates up the jet into
the manifold creating a vacuum. Then there is an airlock, and unless the
pipes are correctly routed in the fuel filler neck area, and the pump
develops full power there is a problem which is solved only by allowing the
car to cool down.
It is worse on early cars with the non vented carbs. So your carbs dashpot
covers could read 175CDS or 175 CD2S, or they couldbe 175 CDSEV or something
with a V for vented.
Also if you have any air leaks they will be exacerbated by expansion of
components like carb spindle bushes.
You could try pulling a plug next time she won't start to see if its wet or
dry. (Careful about burning your fingers). If its wet you have oiled up, or
you are too rich, and if its dry you got no fuel coming through.
Hope that helped.
