Cooling System
Hello David
Everything Mike says could be right, but I am hung up on your statement that
before your incident you changed hoses because they were ballooning.
I think that your pressure was too high if this happened. You do not say if
the ballooning stopped when you changed hoses.
The ballooning could have caused been by failure of the pressure cap to blow
at the correct pressure. Could be the wrong cap, or a seized cap bung shaft.
A hot burst up the motoway could have raised the pressure much too high and
with the latent heat of the "Afterboil" the pressure caused failure of that
thin slip of a manifold gasket.
I think that after the repair the correct cap is fitted and you are running
at the right pressure. So I think you have little to worry about now.
For peace of mind you could have the two minute pressure check test, just to
be sure of no cylinder head gasket or Water pump leaks of any magnitude.
