Stag Wires should be fitted with tubes and also a 'protector' which is
basically a big rubber band which goes over the ends of the spoke nuts to
prevent chafing directly on the inner tube.

Sounds like DPO has had a right 'go' at your windscreen.  Check for rusting
in that area also.

The 'squares' on the florr pans are anti-drumming pads.  As you say, rust
can set in round them in which case it is best to remove them and sort it
all out.  Personally I would put new anti-drum pads in (obtainable from
your friendly body shop) with a very small amount of Waxoyl or similar
sprayed on afterwards, enoughto stop rot bu not enough to release the
self-adhesive glue on the pads.
