another wiring question

Going to the coil in-addition to the WO wire, which to me is a red more
than an orange tracer, is a white with brown tracer wire.  This wire is
cut and is doing nothing.  Any clues to where this wire is coming or
going to?
What color is slate?  When I think of slate, it reminds me of the
blackish/ grayish stone material found in abundance in Wales.
