Re: Front Brakes Query

Mike Allen has asked me to submit these comments:-
---------------------------------------------------------------
"John Clayton has kindly given me printed copy of
the replies to my remarks on fitting Stag brake pads.

I did not intend offending those seeking advice, nor
appear pompous in stating who I was. It was just that
I have not used the Internet before, but do help SOC
members on a regular basis, having worked on Stags
and owned them since 1982.

I still feel however, that owners who chose to maintain
safety critical items such as brake systems, where
inexperience can be fatal to others as well as themselves,
should not be given false advice by someone who is
recognised as being a specialist in Stags.

I would suggest that all such advice should be checked
if possible against a reputable - if possible the manufacturers
- workshop manual before proceeding.

Thanks to Robert Ducker and Walter Holliday for their
support over the brake pad issue. The pads are shaped thus,
and should be fitted - one of each either side - as follows:-"

Mike sent me a sketch but I'm unable to include it as I don't
yet have a scanner. It shows the different profile of the two
types of pad and shows that the corner with the irregular
shape (as opposed to the smooth one) must be fitted
uppermost in the caliper.

Perhaps Mike Wattam himself will now comment on this
unfortunate matter.
