Oil and Filter Change
Hi everyone
I have just completed an oil change and always wonder if I do it correctly.
Jack up car about 5 inches.
Locate 5L container under drain plug. Clean around drain plug, undo and let
oil drain.
Clean drain plug. Lower jack to complete draining.
When stream stops replace drain plug to correct torque setting. Remove jack.
Remove spin on filter. (I must get a better gripper, my webbing strap is
difficult)
Tip contents into 5L container and dump filter in plastic waste bag.
Fill new filter 3/4 with oil and clean mating faces, rubber to metal with
tissue, oil the rubber ring and tighten 270 degrees over touch tight.
Fill engine with fresh oil about 4.5 litres. (Unipart Blue 15w 40) Check level
on top mark.
Run engine, zero throttle. After 3 secs oil pressure is there. Switch off.
Check oil level. Notice its down a bit. Pour in remaining 0.5 L Oil.
Drop bonnet.
Remove container of old oil and pour into empty oil container. Clean
container. Old oil to local waste collection centre.
I am always a bit concerned starting up with no pressure.
However I have 40K plus miles on this engine, with pressure at tickover only
down about 1 point in that time.
The cost of the oil and filter is 11.39 GBP.
