Silicon Brake fluid
With regard to the various previous inputs on this topic here is something
that should raise a hackle or two.
Popluar Mechanics January 1999 issue has an article in the Saturday Mechanic
series on Flushing Brake systems. It talks about the various fluids available
and their properties.
On DOT 5.0 (Silicone Brake Fluid) we see, after it says the fluid is immune to
moisture, and I quote:-
"Don't even think about using DOT 5 silicone fluid in an automotive braking
system, because it may cause faster wear of the seals, and if enough water
gets into the system it could cause loss of pedal. DOT 5 has application in
some racing vehicles."
