Re: front discs
I recently got my two front discs replaced, and pads also, with items from James
Paddock Sportscars. I did not get brand new hubs as well, although looking back it
would have been wise to have got new hubs, studs, bearings and seals, and simply throw
away the whole disc/hub/bearing assembly that was on the car.
I have not had a chance to see how they have really performed as my engine died and
I have just had a new Rover V8 engine fitted.
Seperation of the old discs from the Hubs can require extreme force from a puller if
they have grown on with rust.
Rimmers do a complete Hub and Stub axle kit for both sides for a reasonable cost.
The reason I say this is that the front wheel on my car came off at speed
as the studs sheared completely. This fault, I must stress, was caused by wheel
spacers being fitted by a previous owner. As a result, I would recommend new hubs
and studs to anyone getting them apart to do a disc change, just to be on the safe
side.
My car also needed a calliper overhaul. If you weigh up the costs of two reconditioned
callipers, two new standard discs and a pad set, one of the uprating kits looks
very attractive.
Good luck, Dave Luke
