Illumination of Instruments
Hi
Well I tested spare rheostat in my possession.
Off until halfway then full on!!! GRRRRRR On inspection I see its
Secondhand!!
I took it apart. Wow complicated!
Printed circuits, Greek key pattern in a circle on rotating disc and al;so on
inner face of back cover. Antennae like contacts, like very tiny copper salt
spoons connecting rotating printed circuit disc with tracks on back cover and
down to backs of spade terminals.
Printed circuit on this example all chewed up and torn off backing, hence no
dim over that part of disc travel. Anyway, totally knackered so pointless
trying to rebuild it I think.
I am forced to wonder how this device got so much rotation as to replicate the
wear of several thousand twists. After all; one setting for preference and
thats it, isn't it?
I suppose some kids were left in the car and played havoc with the controls.
Maybe it came out of a Triumph 2000 or other type of Triumph.
So I am going to conclude that any loss of brightness is probably going to be
the rheostat, and will order a new one for my car 150620 or 37H7994 as per
Rimmer ..(Looks in price list)......Hell at Pounds 36.25 inc VAT that is
expensive. Second hand ones could be all chewed up as per above. Have to visit
S/H suppplier and test on purchase. Or get guarantee. What a nightmare this
little device is.
