Signature Stag

Hello All,

Whilst degreasing the under carriage of my 1973 Stag (LE23398U) yesterday,
under about 1 inch of road crud and grease I was surprised to find that the
chassis is signed with a signature and date, along with some other markings.
Looks like the marker was some type of yellow grease pencil. I will see if it
shows up well enough on a picture to post on the net.
The signature is located on the same P/N 907211 Crossmember Assembly Heelboard
that has the "Curious Metal Loops" tack welded onto it. The name appears to be
a script "Purcel" or something similar. The date is March 7 1973 (7-3-73), and
"DIE 30". I am assuming the signature is the production assemblers name, the
date is when it rolled out of the body factory, and DIE 30 is the production
mold number for one of the panel stampings or quality checking tools?

Has anyone found similar markings on their Stag when cleaning or detailing?

I was also surprised to see that there is only a single coat of primer paint
under most of the car, with sporatic shots of undercoat in places that make
absolutely no sence, and the wheel wells. The undercoat was most likely done by
the dealer, as I had done this many times in wheel wells of new Triumphs at the
dealer. But the single coat of primer is not what I remember, as most of the
Triumphs that came through were painted on the underside chassis panels the same
color as the body. My body color is Mimosa, and there is no Mimosa paint on the
undercarriage, just the one coat of primer, except overspray from a previous
respray. Many restored Stags I see have the undercarriage panels painted the
same color as the body, which is the way I am considering finishing the
undercarriage, after a good coat of corrosion inhibitor.

BTW, The "Curious Metal Loop" contest ends at 23:59:00 Mountain Standard Time
New Years Eve, that's tonight! Get your entries in quick!, 12 hours and 20 some
minutes left and this year is history here.

Heralding All a Triumphant New Year, and prosperous Stag...erings!
