Well I think you have an early car with non vented float chambers.
I think that the foat chambers start to vapour lock when very hot. 
Over 3000 you pull through cold fuel so its OK.
Well its one thought, but if you have MK2 carbs then they are vented so its
not that.
When did it start?
Just when the summer came and you started running over the halfway mark on the
temp guage?
Thats a wee bit hot in my view.
