Unleaded/mpg etc etc.

Unleaded
Peter Howell's remarks are very encouraging.
I am intensely interested in any further replies to the unleaded question
from Ian Soady as we are taking the car to Switzerland via Germany next
week, and leaded fuel is almost unobtainable in Germany.
The last time I was there they sold me an (expensive) additive to put in
the tank, which worked OK and I had no problems.
I am sure that come the unleaded revolution ( did someone say 2000?) the
same additive will be widespread here (UK) as well.

Apropos of very little, I read that In New Zealand they are to ban UNleaded
fuel because of the pollution problems.....!

MPG
If you own a Stag, this is not something you should get too excited about
if you can possibly avoid it, but following recent exchanges on this
mailbase, I thought we would run a check.

On Saturday we went from Somerset to darkest Oxfordshire: a round trip of
200+ miles (including a diversion around Bath which nearly took us to East
Anglia).
It was business not a tour, so we did two non-stop runs with a six-hour
break in between. No luggage worth mentioning.
Because of weekend traffic, lousy roads and so on I don't think the revs
went over 3500 more than half a dozen times, but we were not trying for
economy, just a check.
The engine is in good heart (following a bit of surgery last year) and kept
in tune and good condition by regular maintenance by folks what know......

Result: a bit under 22 mpg as nearly as I can judge. Not being any kind of
specialist, I have no opinion about that and will welcome comments.

As noted above, STAG HYA 7 K Pimento Auto is off on its continental hols
starting Saturday 25th, following minor convalescence and a wonderful
face-lift.
Sincerely, this is not said in any way to show off, but I would like to
tell all those who are suffering the worry and the expense and the bruised
oily knuckles, that every penny and every tear-drop and every scratch is
absolutely worth it.
Just seeing your own well-turned-out Stag loaded and ready to go is way up
there with sex or a good sneeze.

Finally -for our USA friends:

A sign seen yesterday in Somerset: "Humped Zebra Crossing".
Ideas please to this mailbase. (UK members are NOT to give any clues)

best regards
Paul Audemars
